I wish I had the privelage to be blind to the social constraints towards women because they are women BECAUSE THEY ARE VERY REAL.
I have to say, I really don't think that women are socially oppressed any LESS than men, because both have societal norms they're expected to conform to. But, it is undeniable, simply by looking at the kind of representation in government, in head positions of businesses, entertainment industries, and even music, that women are simply not given the same opportunities men are. You can't really believe that it's the same for both - do NONE of the men in those leadership positions have families? They just aren't responsible for making the same kind of sacrifices.

Actually I would deny that there is discrimination against them. What you seem to be referring to is the perceptions of some people, yet I would disagree that most people throughout the majority of America view women as inferior to men. I don't believe that you can illustrate that, for the majority of women, I see them working, if they want to, and they still have a family.

Label my comment as just another guy who doesn't know what he's talking about if you will. I'm just a guy, after all, what would I know about women?

But I think you've just been unlucky. I hardly know any people that have ended to be the typical house wife, and they literally said it was their choice (I know, I know - they might have been unconsciously forced into it, I can't argue with you on that), and all the girls/women I know (which is quite a lot, even more than guys, possibly), are - from my point of view, which I try to keep as neutral as possible - not bound by any social label that really has to do with oppression by the opposite sex any more than guys.

True, in less economically developed countries, female oppression is still at large. But you have to realize that the female revolution never really happened there in the first place. This is, of course, a dreadful thing. I'm expecting that will change as they integrate more with the rest of the world by expanding their economy.

I'm not trying to hurt you or turn the sexes around, but girls in general can be real bitches, acting real bossy, possibly more often than guys (why do you think the word 'bitch' only applies to females?). If you look at relationships, it's usually still boy meets girl, never girl meets boy. I'm trying to say that it's usually the boy chasing the girl. When a girl wants someone, I rarely see her doing anything else than trying to seduce him to go after her. So, in essence, the girls are only trying to get the boys to like them, they rarely do anything of their own. Of course guys tend to seduce girls as well, but they either do that in a less subtle manner or they're simply showing off for no girl in particular.

I'm not saying guys don't have their social flaws, I'm only trying to point out that as far as I've noticed, girls aren't socially oppressed any more than guys.

Just to give you an idea who's mind this is coming from: I live in the Netherlands, am 15 years old, and my main group of friends, with whom I socialize daily, is female.

PS: IN GENERAL, men are physically stronger than women. It's a fact. There's nothing men or women can do about that. That is, unless you're willing to start a world-wide campaign for women to work out more, and secretly find a way to increase beer ads for men, so they'll slack more and get fat. But that won't get us anywhere. Also, my best friend is girl who is extremely good in mathematics. She tops every single person in the class (of which about 3/4 is male), and is thinking about a career involving maths.

There's my rant, hope it got somebody thinking. My apologies to anyone I might have offended; I absolutely didn't mean to.
