The statement “I would try as hard as possible to keep them from the truth” really bothers me. I was deceived as a child and I swore I would never do it to my children. My kids grew up knowing that Santa was a historical character, and were appreciative of the fact that the gifts came from us. They now want to do the same for their children. I think the spirit of Santa is fine, but to lie to children who look to us as a guide in a world full of deception, I think the best CHRISTmas gift we can give our children is the truth.
