Men’s Wedding Bands: Choose the Ring That Suits His Personality

Choosing men's wedding bandsTrying to figure out which men’s wedding band is right for your husband-to-be? With so many options on the market – precious, alternative, contemporary – it can be hard to decide which metal or material will suit him best. Fortunately, each material offers its own unique set of benefits and properties, and there are men’s wedding bands for every distinct personality and style. Here are our suggestions for wedding bands based on your man’s personal preferences.

He’s a traditionalist: For the man seeking the most classic of bands, gold is the premier option. While gold wedding bands for men can be found in a veritable rainbow of colors these days, yellow gold is the most traditional choice (and one that reflects gold’s exclusive quality as the only inherently yellow metal). Naturally soft gold is almost always alloyed with other metals for men’s wedding bands, and its alloy composition is measured in karat purity – the more karats, the more gold (and the more expensive).

He loves a little luxury: For men that revel in the finer things in life, platinum men’s wedding bands are where it’s at. Platinum is one of the rarest elements in existence, and this uncommonness is reflected in the price of platinum. Precious metal platinum offers an attractive and lustrous white metal look, and is tarnish and wear-resistant. Most platinum wedding bands for men are available in 900 or 950 platinum – that is, pure platinum alloyed with 10% or 5% of another metal by weight (usually iridium, ruthenium or cobalt).

He prefers the obscure: For the man who wants a precious metal but yearns for something more esoteric than gold or platinum, palladium is an excellent option. A rare chemical element, palladium has a naturally white luminous appearance. Palladium men’s wedding bands are less expensive than platinum and most types of white gold, and unlike gold rings, do not require rhodium plating for their silvery look. Palladium is also biocompatible, making palladium wedding bands for men ideal for those with skin allergies or sensitive skin.

He hates wearing jewelry: If you’re wondering how you’re ever going to keep a wedding ring on his jewelry-phobic finger, consider titanium. Titanium is incredibly lightweight – so much so that titanium men’s wedding bands will make it seem like your husband is wearing practically no ring at all. Titanium wedding bands for men are also extremely durable, crack and corrosion-resistant. Titanium rings are most often found in three grades – aircraft, commercial pure and extra-hard – the use of which is generally dictated by the design of the band and whether it incorporates special elements like gemstones.

He wants pure brawn: For the man who requires a ring that is as rugged and manly as he is, tungsten (or tungsten carbide) men’s wedding bands cannot be beaten. Measuring 8.5-9 on the Mohs hardness scale, tungsten carbide is technically a ceramic and made of an alloy of the chemical element tungsten and carbon atoms. Tungsten carbide men’s wedding bands are scratch-resistant and weighty, although it should be noted that the naturally brittle tungsten is not immune to cracking if banged on a hard enough surface. Tungsten wedding bands for men can be found in tungsten’s distinctive gunmetal grey, black, or a silvery white version that resembles platinum.

He loves a deal that looks expensive: If he wants a ring with a precious metal look but an alternative metal price tag, cobalt chrome is the way to go. A metallic alloy of cobalt and chromium, cobalt chrome men’s wedding bands resembles white gold or platinum at a fraction of the price. Often used in medical applications, cobalt chrome is biocompatible and hypoallergenic. Cobalt chrome wedding bands for men have a handsome look that endures, and are scratch, crack and tarnish-resistant. On the same note, the Black Ceramic Ring is also a great choice for men’s wedding bands, that looks expensive but for a fraction of the price.

Black ceramics are my personal recommendation for men's rings. The material is durable, classy, fairly priced last time I check from jewelers in nyc.

If you want beautiful wedding ring, you have to concentrate on three important parts: the stone, the metal and the style of the ring. It is very important that you research this subject well.
