Get Rid Of The “Oldies”!

Get Rid Of The “Oldies”

Do you have a store room full of things you never use?

Is your closet full of clothes you never wear?

Is your house cluttered with boxes full of things and papers you don’t need?

Then, there is only one thing to do: get rid of them! If we accept the fact that each and every object has its own energy, this old and useless stuff can only emit bad vibes.

But, how can these bad vibes be explained and how do they affect you?

It’s easy to understand how “old” energy affects you. Just imagine that you find some old photographs after a long time. They will bring you memories, won’t they? These memories may be good – you see yourself lying on the beach of that beautiful island you were on vacation at in 1992 – it’ll make you smile. But these same photos may ruin your day – they remind you how different you are now from that young and happy child. The same happens with the old stuff you keep at home. They remind you of the past; a past you consider better than the future – a past you stick to. Hence, they don’t let you live in the present and for the future.

I have an uncle who is a hoarder – he never throws anything away. He keeps every newspaper and magazine he has ever read; he even keeps every bill he has ever paid. You want to know what happened to him? He is miserable, alone and hasn’t ever accomplished anything. “But why?” he asks himself. The explanation is easy. He never managed to leave the past behind him – he was surrounded by it – and he never managed to fulfill his dreams.

His example was enough to encourage me to start getting rid of all my junk. And I do that every year. Why don’t you do the same? It will make you feel a lot better, I promise!

Have a plan

Clearing your house from unnecessary clutter is not an easy task, especially if you are doing it for the first time. So, you should have a plan.

I remember myself when I first tried get rid of anything I didn’t. I thought I would manage to do it within a day. But it didn’t work. I got tired and confused; I realized that I was living in chaos that made me gasp for breath! I was close to giving up. So, be prepared! This “junk clearance” will take a while. A good idea is to set a time-limit for the task; let’s say two weeks. Also, decide how many hours per day you can deal with your junk. I suggest you deal with it for an hour or two. What’s more, it’s better if you start with slow, baby steps. For example, the first day, clear your drawers; the next day your closet; the day after that, open all your boxes.

Put aside the useless objects you find. These are objects that you haven’t seen or used for a while. Then get rid of them. I know that many of us are afraid to throw away things, even if we don’t use them. So, there is an alternative. Put them in a store room for a while, two months for example. Ask your friends and family – someone will have a store room where you can put your stuff. Let some weeks pass. Do you miss any of this stuff? If you don’t, here are some proposals to get rid of them:

Give them away!

Ask your friends if they need any of your stuff. Things that are useless to you may be very useful to somebody else. I usually give clothes that are old, don’t fit me or are out of fashion (yes, I admit I am a typical member of a consumer society that doesn’t wear old fashioned clothes) to the poor.

Recycle now!

I suggest you recycle every paper, newspaper, magazine, tin can or any other object that you want to get rid of and can be recycled. It’s easy, since you can find recycle bins everywhere; plus, it’s crucial for our planet. After all, you are doing something good for yourself; why not help the environment at the same time?

Try to sell them!

That’s what eBay and local market places are for.

If you can’t do any of the above with some of your stuff, the only thing is left to do is to throw them away to the nearest garbage bin.

Anyhow, when you are finished, you will feel relieved, less stressed and more organized. So, don’t postpone the clearing task. Start tomorrow. Because, someone said, “only in America do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.” I guess he was right.

Shall i get rid of myself too? Some things are just parts of me, and I still don't like to look at them, but a great thing about life is that by comprising with yourself you get to see whats really bothering you!

Get rid of yourself?:p of course not! the only thing you can do is change yourself (for the better:) I agree that everything is part of you. Anything you have done, said, thought, experienced its yours. I assume that all the things you keep to your house bring you memories but getting rid of useless stuff doesn't mean that you are gonna get rid of these memories neither that you are gonna get rid of yourself..Giving away things won't change who you already are. I guess its not that easy. It will only make you fell"relieved, less stressed and more organized". In my opinion, every now and then, we have to leave the past behind and make a fresh start in our life.
